On September 28 and 29, IPADE hosted the Sixth Annual Meeting for Family Businesses in partnership with the Research Center for Family Businesses (CIFEM). Held at IPADE’s Mexico City campus, the theme of this year’s two day, invite-only meeting was wealth management. Members of family-owned businesses from a variety of sectors were invited to share experiences and learn from each other, as well as from a group of experts, about different ways to preserve their family’s patrimony.
Participating experts included CIFEM staff and invited guest speakers. IPADE Professor Ricardo Aparicio welcomed participants to the event.
“A family’s patrimony can quickly shift from being a source of social and familial wellbeing, to being a source of discord within the family.”
Invited speakers included Josep Tàpies, Professor in the Department of Strategic Management and holder of the Family-Owned Business Chair at IESE Business School, and a Fellow with the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA); and María Elena Lagomasino, CEO and Managing Partner of WE Family Offices, a global family office serving ultra-high net worth families. The program also included sessions lead by Professor Lorenzo Fernández, Director of the Financial Management Department of and Director of IPADE’s Monterrey campus; and Oscar Carbonell, Professor in the Financial Management Department at IPADE.
Topics covered included: ‘Building a Legacy: A Comprehensive Vision of the Family Patrimony,’ ‘Long-term Wealth Management Strategies,’ and ‘Building and Growing a Family Office,’ among others. In addition to the sessions, two round table conversations were held, offering the opportunity for participants to share lessons learned from their personal experiences, and to discuss ideas and perspectives with an audience of their peers.
The Meeting for Family Businesses is hosted by IPADE and CIFEM every year, and serves to strengthen Mexican family-owned businesses and the families behind them.
