On August 17, IPADE hosted the launch for the book “El quehacer del director” (The Role of the Director), written by Professor Carlos Ruiz, at its campus in Mexico City. Professor Ruiz is Director of the In-Company Program, President of the Editorial Board of Istmo, the official magazine of IPADE, as well as a member of the board, advisor, and consultant for various companies and organizations.
The evening began with a panel session featuring the participation of Patricia Montelongo, participant of the Top Management AD-2 Program and former Director of Istmo (1984-2013); Juan Grau, Professor of General Management and former CEO of Grupo Bacardí Mexico and North America; and Luis Bonner de la Mora, Professor and Director of the General Management department at IPADE. The panel was moderated by María del Carmen Bernal, Director of the Research Center for Women in Senior Management (CIMAD).
Following the panel session, Professor Ruiz spoke briefly about his book, reflecting on the importance of the director as a driving force of action, rather than just a position or an individual.
“The purpose of this book isn’t just to present an overview of the responsibilities of management,” said Ruiz, “but rather to inspire contemplation towards a better understanding of the purpose of management, so that each person is able to create their own style.”
Professor Ruiz emphasized the use of practical wisdom in management, focusing on the activities of a director (diagnosis, decision making, and execution), as well as the different roles that they must play within an organization (strategist, developer, and doer), and used real life business cases and experiences to highlight the ever-changing role of the director in modern business.
Following the panel and presentation, attendees were invited to a networking cocktail hosted by IPADE.
